Kita Shantiris
Kita Shantiris (Curry) earned a BA in English from the University of Pennsylvania and a PhD in psychology from UCLA.
Shantiris earned second place in the 2012 Ballymaloe International Poetry Prize Contest and Honorable Mention in Fish Publishing's 2011 international contest. Several poems also have been shortlisted for England’s Bridport Prize and other awards, and two of her poems are included in The Faber Book of Movie Verse. Her poems have been published in Carleton Miscellany, Poetry, Poetry Northwest, Quarterly West, The Fish Anthology, The Little Magazine, The Moth, and ONTHEBUS.
Since 1999, Shantiris has served as CEO of Didi Hirsch Mental Health Services in Los Angeles, home to the nation’s first 24-hour suicide crisis line. She has been honored for her dedication to erasing the stigma associated with mental illness and for bringing services to communities in need.
