Fig Tree of Cyprus
Translated By Peter J. King & Andrea Christofidou
Translated from the Greek
You carved into the smooth skin
the unexaggerated fable of your life.
Your fruit, like sunlight’s summons to a sandy beach.
Your maternal milk has nourished
countless homeless migrants.
How many people, fig, would crave
your leaves’ compassionate touch?
