Envoi

A lion padded down the sidewalk toward him, shedding
light. He knew he began then to talk–loud enough
to wake the neighbourhood. Face to face, the lion
rose up, as if to greet him, but inside the lion, barely
visible, he saw a line-drawing of a man. Then, the
lion dropped on all-fours and followed the sidewalk.
Turning suddenly, with his right paw, he threw a piece
of light–it seemed to have no form–it was not
a jewel–a piece of light–and it glowed a little
red before it was gone.
